    Crossyne flava dense umbel

    Crossyne flava dense umbel
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

If a plant’s individual flowers happen to be inconspicuous, the spectacular aspect of its floral presentation may lie in the overall impact of its inflorescence.

The large, spherical Crossyne flava flowerhead is an umbel from 20 cm to 40 cm in diameter. It comprises from 45 to 220 flowers in a single inflorescence radiating on pedicels notably yellow near their bases, dull reddish further up.

These pale pedicels are a distinctive characteristic of the species, the florets impressing by their numbers (Duncan, et al, 2016; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
