Serruria aemula

Serruria aemula, previously S. ciliata and commonly the strawberry spiderhead, is a low-growing, sprawling and sometimes rounded shrublet of 30 cm in height.

The species distribution is or was parts of the Cape Flats, once common from Bellville to Salt River, Milnerton and Rondebosch.

Today only few plants still grow in its sandy flats and dune strandveld fynbos habitat. The species is considered to be critically endangered early in the twenty first century due to habitat destruction (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
