This green, luxurious stem-tip of Heteromorpha arborescens var. abyssinica has wavy leaflets tapering to pointed tips. Conspicuous midribs and lateral veins are present. Leaflet tips may also be rounded or notched. Some scalloping of the leaflet margins is visible here, unlike the entire margins also seen.

The thin-textured leaves exude a distinctive parsley aroma when crushed, in line with the tree’s common name of parsley tree. The leaves are spirally arranged upon the stem (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993).
