    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This green Astroloba smutsiana stem-tip accentuates the herbaceous leaf succulent nature of the species. Leaf margins are thick and smooth, tapering to the acutely pointed tips of the triangular leaves. Off-centre keels on the outside leaf surfaces are sometimes seen as on one of the leaves in picture.

    A. smutsiana is smaller than the similar A. spiralis and differentiated by longitudinal streaks near leaf margins, possibly represented sufficiently on the photographed specimen to warrant confirmation (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot; Wikipedia).
