    Red autumn grass is a hard grass that is not often grazed. The grass has inconspicuous inflorescences, but a deep red colour late in the growing season contributes to the changing colour of the veld quite significantly. 

    This species is really widespread: found in Africa, the Americas where it is known as crimson bluestem, also in Asia and Australia. Maybe this is one of the older flowering plant inhabitants of our world that was already present before the continents parted?
