Erythrina humeana red seeds

The pods of this Erythrina humeana shrub have opened. The ovoid red seeds still cling, presenting a good colour contrast against the darkened pods.

Maybe they wait for a bird to eat and disperse them in exciting new spots in their habitat. The photo was taken in early spring in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.
