Euphorbia gariepina subsp. gariepina cyathium

The Euphoria gariepina subsp. gariepina false flowers or cyathia are produced in stem-tip cymes on peduncles up to 4 cm long. Each is subtended by at least two bluish green bracts with pointed or rounded tips, as well as augmented by five disc-shaped, fleshy glands, in picture about flat and nearly circular. The dioecious species produces male and female flowers on separate plants.

Apart from E. gariepina subsp. gariepina there is another subspecies, viz. E. gariepina subsp. balsamea that is endemic to the Kaokoland in Namibia and southern Angola (Van Rooyen and Van Rooyen, 2019; Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist; JSTOR).
