    Leucospermum calligerum bicoloured styles
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Ivan Lätti

The flowers of Leucospermum calligerum start off pale yellow to cream coloured, fading to pinkish red as they age. There are yellow pollen presenter or stigma at each style tip.

Timing or the female flower component selects among the pollen grains presented when more than one arrives on the ripe stigma, after the pollen presenter has done its thing. The flowerheads range from 2 cm to over 3 cm in diameter.

Blooming lasts from midwinter to summer (Manning, 2009; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; http://aob.oxfordjournals.org).
