    Euphorbia mauritanica flowering almost over

    Euphorbia mauritanica flowering almost over
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Ivan Lätti

In this picture taken at Kagga Kamma in September, the development of the Euphorbia mauritanica fruits has progressed to the point where the central male flower is nearly shrivelled up, soon to disappear. The fruits are now pushed up on green stalks, separated from the base of fleshy glands, while the branched styles are still attached to their tips.

The narrow green leaves are still present on the stems below, the summer heat presumably not so intense this year to make them fall (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
