    Dombeya pulchra flower

    Dombeya pulchra flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The bisexual flowers of Dombeya pulchra grow stalked in terminal or axillary panicles. The flower has three bracts at the pedicel base that fall early.

The calyx lobes are narrow and pointed, reflexed away from the corolla. The corolla is cup-shaped, the petals 1,2 cm to 2 cm long. The petals are white, often with deep pink or rose centres. Flowering happens from midsummer to autumn.

The fruit is a small capsule that dehisces. It is usually surrounded by the brown, dry petals (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
