Like a human may unexpectedly experience a blond moment, a Brunsvigia orientalis umbel may live through a flatheaded phase when the first perimeter flowers radiate out horizontally on longer pedicels, the inner ones still short over the umbel centre. The resultant inflorescence is a disc-shaped flat head that doesn’t last long before the umbel matures.

As people know, trouble stars when blond moments persist, or when someone else comments about them. Brunsvigias are less touchy.
