    Euryops serra leaves

    Euryops serra leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The long, narrow leaves of Euryops serra grow more scattered than spiralling around the upper stems, stalkless or very short-stalked. Stiffly ascending, the narrow midrib parts are channelled above with evenly spaced, regularly shaped, finger-like lobes ascending laterally, upwards and forwards, with pointed tips and sometimes also channelled above. The dull green to light green leaves are hairless but not very smooth. The leaves are from 5 cm to 10 cm long and from 5 mm to 10 mm wide.

The specific name, serra, is a Latin word meaning saw, referring to the serrate or saw-like leaf margins, which have been described as serratilobed or closely and shortly pinnatilobate with acute, forward-pointing lobes.

Lower stems become bare, pale grey and smooth but for scars of dropped-off leaves (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
