    Barleria albostellata

    Barleria albostellata

    Photographer: Ivan Lätti

Barleria albostellata is known as the grey barleria or in Afrikaans the bosviooltjie. The name albostellata means white star-like hairs, which is a misnomer as the hairs on the leaves and other plant parts are not stellate, i.e. star-like.

Of the 60 South African Barleria species the well-known garden plants include B. greenii (white to pale pink and rare), B. obtusa (blue-mauve flowers), B. repens (rose-pink flowers) and B. rotundifolia (yellow flowers) (www.plantzafrica.com).
