    Bolusanthus speciosus flowers

    Bolusanthus speciosus flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Ricky Mauer

The Vanwykshout is a common tree in the Steelpoort area, also in the De Hoop Dam basin. It is a widely established and favoured garden, park and pavement tree.

Those that like jacaranda flowers, but want to plant indigenous have this tree as a worthy option. Flowering commences at the end of winter in habitat amidst the lush and shiny yellow green new leaves. The flowering may continue throughout summer.

The seed pod is flat, light brown or straw coloured, getting darker with age (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
