The sparse, older Selago flanaganii shrub finds itself in a partly bare patch of montane grassland. It has fairly spaced inflorescences at stem-tips. Main branches from the base are thick and woody, the better performing side branches notably elongated. Their flowers are congested on very short, secondary side-branchlets, just above densely leafy parts.

Older generations of many species display characteristic style peculiarities in doing their thing. Their distinctive performances in coping with challenges are sometimes noteworthy (Pooley, 1998; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
