Ascending to erect, the leaves of Protea roupelliae subsp. roupelliae are usually retained on the plant for only about two growth seasons below the stem-tip rosettes, the lower stems soon bare.

The simple, stalkless to debatably short-stalked leaves range from linear lance-shaped to broadly lance-shaped. They have rounded to acutely pointed tips, tapering to the bases and their margins entire. The bluish green blades are variously shaggy, hairy or hairless, more glabrous as they age.

Leaf dimensions are 8 cm to 17 cm long and 1,5 cm to 5 cm wide (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Rebelo, 1995; Pooley, 1993; Rourke, 1980; iNaturalist).
