The stalkless, simple leaves of Protea subvestita curve upwards, ascend and overlap loosely. The leaf-shape is elliptic to lanceolate, tapering to the sturdy base, the tip pointed or nearly pointed. The young leaves are hairy to very much so, losing hairs in patches until the old leaves are glabrous. Leaf colour is bluish green, the young leaves usually paler. The leaf margins are entire, a common feature of the genus.
The specific epithet, subvestita, is derived from the Latin words sub meaning under and vestitus meaning clothes or covering, referring to the disappearing hair covering of the leaves.
Leaf dimensions are 5 cm to 11 cm long and 1,5 cm to 3,5 cm wide (Manning, 2009; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Rebelo, 1995; Rourke, 1980; iNaturalist).
