Melolobium exudans flowers

The yellow, peaflower-shaped flowers of Melolobium exudans grow short-stalked in short stem-tip racemes. The bell-shaped, two-lipped calyces and the floral bracts have coverings of glandular hairs.

The banner petals are based on channelled claws. The wings and keels are also clawed and the convex keels are shorter than the wings. The stamens are unequal. The flowers are about 1 cm long and fade to orange. Flowering happens from late winter to after midspring.

The compressed fruit pods are sickle-shaped; the seeds attached via short funicles. The pod surfaces are glandular hairy (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
