    Asparagus rubicundus dark thorns

    Asparagus rubicundus dark thorns
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A hefty Asparagus rubicundus thorn is present below each branching point of a side-branch and at each node. A slight downward bend is visible near each thorns tip.

The dark, purplish brown bark is glossy and smooth on the unyielding, cylindrical stems (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist).
