Asparagus rubicundus early fruit colours

Fruit colour change in Asparagus rubicundus includes this, appearing once the fairly globose bodies reach full size. Black or dark purple colouring appears when ripe.

The segmentation appears a little exaggerated here, interesting to observe in fruits that carry single seeds (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist).
