    Osteospermum moniliferum flowerheads

    Osteospermum moniliferum flowerheads
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

The yellow flowerheads of Osteospermum moniliferum comprise a ring of about eight or nine spreading ray florets that are female.

The central disc consists of small, tubular and five-lobed male florets, contributing only pollen and colour but no fruit (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
