    Aspalathus granulata faded flowers

    Aspalathus granulata faded flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

The flowers of Aspalathus granulata grow solitary from leaf axils, scattered upon the branches. There is a hairy bract at the pedicel base. The pedicels are densely hairy, as are the narrowly bell-shaped calyces that end in triangular lobes.

The flowers are cream with brighter yellow centres, the back of the banner petal also hairy. The flowers are about 8 mm long. In picture the flowers have faded, the hairy sepals darkened. Flowering happens from late winter to early summer.

The broadly lance-shaped, dark fruit pods are nearly cylindrical, smooth and hard.

The pointed, stubby leaflets are shiny and dark green (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
