    Grewia hexamita flowers

    Grewia hexamita flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Piet Grobler

The large, golden yellow flowers of Grewia hexamita are honey-scented. The oblong sepals are notably longer than the petals. Both petals and sepals in picture are channelled down the centre. The stamen cluster in the flower centre is darker deep yellow on the filaments, the anthers brownish.

When the flower parts have withered and dropped off, the closed-in sepals show their pale velvety outer surfaces (Schmidt, et al, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993; Van Wyk, 1984; iNaturalist).
