    Lachenalia pallida perianth colour change

    Lachenalia pallida perianth colour change
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Uri Mitrani

When the Lachenalia pallida flowers open, the outside three dark-tipped tepals give way to the elongating inner three that each has a longitudinal, narrow and dark stripe down the centre. The lowest of the inner tepals becomes the longest.

Following these tepals the six stamens and style elongate, becoming exserted for a short while. These inner floral parts appear to lie on the tip of the longest inner tepal (Manning, 2007; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
