Pelargonium tricolor flower back view

At the back of a Pelargonium tricolor flower the brownish sepals bend back strongly. They are narrow, acutely pointed and very hairy along the margins, shorter-haired on the outside surfaces and apparently not much on the insides.

The upper petals are darkly coloured at the base, about black also on the outside and slightly clawed. The dark petal patches in picture end in uneven purple zones before the big upper petal parts are white (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
