A stand of Lachenalia suaveolens may include flowering plants of which the leaves are already brown and withered as in the photo. Some plants grow only one leaf.

Flowering happens in spring. The grassy slopes where they grow can then be busy places (Bond and Goldblatt; iNaturalist).
