Bright petal lobes of Jamesbrittenia bergae make the crimson flower special wherever it is encountered. The plant is unfortunately range-restricted but when spotted flowering in natural habitat, not too far from the town of Thabazimbi where nothing happens fairly often, the day is made.

About oblong in their upper halves, the flat-tipped to roundly notched lobes have a colour boldness to impress many more than pollinating insects.

The yellow throat is a guiding boon to the service providing visitors that have to enter for reaching anthers and stigma. Mutual fulfilment of the needs of both parties sustains the unwritten contract, older than all written ones on earth (https://pza.sanbi.org).
