Gladiolus orchidiflorus inner floral features

Gladiolus orchidiflorus inner floral features
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

When the camera gets really close to a Gladiolus orchidiflorus flower, some of its intimate details may be revealed. Spots become conspicuous on the fleshy surfaces of tepal bases, as well as the gloss, veins and variable colouring on particular surface patches, all in accordance with the plant’s true characteristics.

The important parts in terms of reproduction are shown, whitish diverging style branches dangling over the dark oblongs of the anthers (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; iNaturalist).
