Eulophia cucullata floral features

Vein lines on the Eulophia cucullata petals photographed in Mozambique may be distinct in certain light, although it is not perfect for observing all features. The neatness of the parallel curves resembles ploughed furrows on a slope.

The gynostemium (column) curves down club-shaped over the lip in the centre of the resupinate (twisted upside down) flower.

On the bud above the still forward-facing lateral sepals are of interest, to be flexed back once the flower is fully open. The narrow bract emerging from the stem at the bud base is long and narrow, not missed because of its protracted tip (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Pooley, 1998).
