    Cyphostemma oleraceum leaves

    Cyphostemma oleraceum leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The large, simple leaves of Cyphostemma oleraceum are alternate and sessile with pointed stipules present.

The leaves are broadly ovate and acutely to obtusely tipped, the bases tapering to flat. The margins are regularly toothed, sharply to bluntly. The fleshy, blue-green blades have midribs thickened lower down. The ascending lateral veins are also thick near the midrib, reducing to about invisible at the margins.

The small, young leaves may start off purplish red (Hardy and Fabian, 1992; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; iNaturalist).
