    Cyphostemma oleraceum stem

    Cyphostemma oleraceum stem
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The annual stem of Cyphostemma oleraceum, a robust grower, is mostly prostrate, the plant hairless. The alternate leaves are sometimes subopposite, ascending from the thick reclining stems.

Green buds precede the yellow flowers, red fruit follow them (Hardy and Fabian, 1992; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; iNaturalist).
