Aloe petricola bicoloured inflorescence

The orange-red Aloe petricola buds at the top of the raceme in picture turn creamy yellow or ivory before they open. Once they do, the stamens are exserted, the thread-like to flattened filaments of the inner three stamens emerging first, the outer three later. The exserted filament part may be 1 cm long, deep brown in colour.

On some plants the buds are red, the open flowers ivory or greenish white. When the buds are orange, the open flowers are usually yellow (Frandsen, 2017; Van Wyk and Smith, 2003; Reynolds, 1974; Jeppe, 1969; iNaturalist).
