Zygophyllum flexuosum leaves

Zygophyllum flexuosum leaves
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The succulent leaf-pairs of Zygophyllum flexuosum are sessile and erect, growing from the shrublet’s pale, angled stems.

The leaflets are ovoid or obovoid, sometimes curved and channelled on the lower surfaces or outsides. Their surfaces are smooth, sometimes slightly shiny but here sandy from beach life.

The hard, dry stipules may persist after the leaves have dropped off (Manning, 2009; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
