Zygophyllum flexuosum angled calyx

The calyx of a Zygophyllum flexuosum flower doesn’t compete with its corolla at peak flowering time. It does, however, outlast its more spectacular counterpart as the useful protective cover over the ovary for a longer period.

The pedicel is long enough to present its flower above the erect leaves.

This Zygophyllum species bears a nearly globular, slightly flattened fruit, lined by five longitudinal sutures. The fruit contains one sticky seed in each chamber (Manning, 2009; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
