Grielum humifusum flower

Grielum humifusum flower
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This Grielum flower does not have the usual white eye or white petal bases mostly seen in Grielum humifusum flowers. In fact, the greenish base resembles that of a G. grandiflorum flower, but the leaves do not divide into the narrowly pointed segments of the latter species.

The photo was taken at Tietiesbaai on the west coast where G. grandiflorum is expected but G. humifusum might also be found. Whether this is a natural hybrid could enter the speculation (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
