Grewia robusta before and after the open flower

Grewia robusta before and after the open flower
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Both fruit and flower of Grewia robusta have new leaf growth at the pedicel base here with no bracts visible.

The slightly before and fully after juxtaposition of the floral cycle shown here emphasises the mini-miraculous nature of fruit to flower transformation, often taken for granted.

The sepals in picture appear darker coloured on their outsides than the insides, not stealing the petal thunder soon to arrive (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
