Chaenostoma revolutum flower profiles

Chaenostoma revolutum flower profiles
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Below the spreading corolla lobes the Chaenostoma revolutum flower tube has an orange section that narrows before the pale part meeting the oblong calyx lobe tips.

The exserted stamens are the taller pair, the second pair on shorter filaments hold their anthers in the corolla mouth. The whitish translucent style is tall in the centre.

The brown bits among the leaves are faded corollas, bloomtime having been around for a while already. The photo was taken during May on the Oulap farm in the east of the Little Karoo (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
