    Trametes versicolor ambitious mushrooms

    Trametes versicolor ambitious mushrooms
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

There is a lot of tree to cover, it seems as the ambitious turkey tail or Trametes versicolor spreads on the dead bole of the tree it has targeted. New columns of small fungi caps that could later match the major ranks are starting on the dead bark.

When these fungi appear green it is algae growing upon them, doing no harm to their wellbeing.

    T. versicolor is a white-rot fungus which degrades lignocellulose materials such as wood, by digesting it and making it rot (iNaturalist; www.mushroomexpert.com; Wikipedia).
