Berzelia commutata

Berzelia commutata is a much-branched, ericoid shrub reaching heights around 1 m. The small, deep green leaves narrow and pointed, angle away from the stems in a patterned way. The soft, creamy yellow upper stems show up conspicuously as the leaves in picture are not that close together.

Close to the floral spheres, bright and white when in full bloom, the stems may lose their leaves, scoured or bashed by the wind.

The species distribution is in the Western and Eastern Cape. The habitat is montane fynbos. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
