    Hermannia cuneifolia bracts or mini-leaves

    Hermannia cuneifolia bracts or mini-leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

There are pointed bracts, or bract-like small leaves near the calyces of buds and flowers of Hermannia cuneifolia. Leaf-shape on this plant rarely appears consistent.

Everything in picture is hairy, apart from the corollas and old stems. At least some hairs on this species are star-like, divided in their upper parts (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
