Cephalophyllum loreum young anthers

Cephalophyllum loreum young anthers
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This Cephalophyllum loreum flower has its young stamens arranged roughly in concentric rings, the inner ones still underdeveloped. The anthers are thick, probably losing their chunkiness as the pollen is freed.

Cephalophyllum anthers are often differently coloured to the petals around them, in this species the two colours not dramatically contrasted (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
