Crassula rupestris numerous young stems

Unusual Crassula rupestris growth has occurred here in the elongation of a large number of erect flowering stems on a mature bush that struck it lucky after good rain. The plant was photographed in the Kammanassie during April.

The decussate leaf-pairs are well-spaced up their thin stems. The thick leaf margins are pale brown rather than red in the lush growth conditions of these young stems, the leaf-shape pretty consistent. The stems are dark grey to blackish low down, pinkish purple near the inflorescences.

Peduncles of the loose flower clusters are at this stage not all able to hold up their buds effectively (Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
