Buddleja saligna higher branches

Some upper Buddleja saligna stems curve ostentatiously in this bush that is less than a tree, growing on the verge of a mostly dry watercourse in the Little Karoo near Barrydale. A broad, somewhat weeping crown is the result, enhanced by numerous young shoots growing erectly.

With help from other shrubs B. saligna may form dense thickets, also where water is invisible for long, only supplied along the lines of underground watercourses (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
