Oedera multipunctata ray appendages

Oedera multipunctata ray appendages
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The wedge-shaped Oedera multipunctata ray florets in picture are interestingly two-lipped, the inner petals reduced to two distinct, thread-like appendages opposite the main, strap-shaped blade of the ray on the outside.

There are no stamens in these ray florets, but they can fruit as they include ovaries and styles (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Manning, 2007; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist; https://keyserver.lucidcentral.org).
