Gladiolus monticola inflorescence

The inflorescence of Gladiolus monticola grows on an unbranched stem that is erect at the base, angled after the upper leaf sheath and thinly wiry, only 1,5 mm in diameter at the inflorescence base.

From three to nine flowers are borne. The narrow perianth tubes in picture are coloured similarly as their flaring tips. The lower three tepals protrude further forward than the upcurved dorsal one. They are joined for the lowest 5 mm in the tube.

Several flowers are usually open simultaneously as in the photo (Clarke and Mackenzie, 2007; Manning, 2007; Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; iNaturalist).
