Gladiolus saundersii dorsal tepal from above

Gladiolus saundersii dorsal tepal from above
    Author: Ivan Lätti

The narrowly ovate Gladiolus saundersii dorsal tepal bulges like a helmet in it central part as it extends horizontally or tilts down. Darker vein lines from base to tip are joined by faint net-veining upon the limb showing dull shine. The bract tip at the base of the dorsal resembles the beak of a bird. Expect style and anthers to be present just below this tepal.

The upper lateral tepals appear variously rolled or curled up beside the base of the dorsal tepal. The lower three tepals, as well as the style and stamens are invisible here, masked by the floral parts in picture (Pooley, et al, 2025; Manning, 2009; Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; Pooley, 1998; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist).
