Schizocarphus nervosus leaves

The tough, stiff leaves of Schizocarphus nervosus grow erectly from the underground bulb, their margins thickened. The leaves are strap-shaped to lance-shaped and often twisted. The specific name, nervosus, is a Latin word meaning nerved or veined, referring to the notable longitudinal vein lines on the leaves.

The inflorescence in picture is taller than the leaf-tips, visible to pollinators over the lush grass (Pooley, et al, 2025; Manning, 2009; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist).
