Ebracteola fulleri flower

The brightly coloured flower of Ebracteola fulleri grows solitary, usually on a short stalk with tiny bracts. It has a pinkish purple colour towards the notched petal tips, white at the base. The flowers central cone of mainly white staminodes shows some pale yellow in the middle of its flat top, presumably from anthers. The petal colour bleaches to pale purple on old flowers in the full sun of the habitat. Flower width is about 4 cm.

This flowering specimen was seen in September near Aggeneys. Flowers may be seen at most times during the year, opening with morning sun, closing before dark (Williamson, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist; https://plantory.ai).
