Disa uniflora produces one or a few carmine red, orange, pink and rarely yellow.

The specific name of uniflora suggests that only a single flower is produced. The name was given early, when the plant was not well known yet. Facts learnt later often accompany inappropriate names given earlier. So, always careful with calling novice leaders wise!

Knowledge grows gradually from low beginnings. Human learning has accumulated nicely in so many fields that the level of learning can be misjudged. What is known is always less than what is not known, apart from in limited, circumscribed fields. People, even presidents overestimate their own knowledge. No plant on earth is fully known by humanity yet and will never be, although many of them are pretty well known and understood.

Living systems always evolve further, species are continually becoming, and science digs deeper. Horticulture brings chosen plants into new conditions, eliciting new growth habits and features. Climate change is but one part of our changing world.
