Leucadendron xanthoconus grows narrow leaves that are somewhat sickle-shaped. Those close to stem-tips where flowering cones form, the involucral leaves, are long and yellow. They create the "sunshine” effect on hillsides in spring.
Numerous pollen-producing florets, bright yellow with protruding stamens form each soft, fuzzy-looking head. The cone fades quickly and drops off after shedding its pollen (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist; https://www.phillipskop.co.za).
